There are many reasons why your cat might be peeing in your house. It can be down to change of circumstances, another cat invading their territory and also health issues. To find out why your cat is peeing in the house, please take a few minutes to read this article, you will learn why they are doing it, and what you can do to stop it.
Lets look at some of the reasons why this may be happening.
The main reason for cats urinating in the house is down to their space being invaded by other cats. My father in law has an elderly cat which uses a litter tray as well as outside space for doing her business. He couldn't understand when one day, she started to pee on the carpet, instead of her tray, and it was down to another cat coming in the cat flap during the night, using the cat litter tray and then leaving.
It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but one night having her lay on my lap, and then hearing the cat flap move, and I knew what was happening, and why she was peeing on the carpet and not using her litter tray. Does this sound like this could be happening to you also? Cats are very territorial, and the scent of another, especially in their litter tray, can cause all kinds of problems.
The second problem may cat owners face is cleanliness. Cats are notoriously clean, and having an unclean litter tray can make them not enter. This was the problem with my cat, and now that he is almost 15 years old having the slightest bit of dirt in his litter box was a problem. The only solution is using better quality litter, and cleaning out daily.
Cat Litter can also be an issue for many new cats and kittens. Many brands which are scented to help disguise the smell of urine, can be a hindrance and make your cat turn away from the litter box. You may also find that cleaning up the cat pee with regular cleaning products, especially antibacterial sprays, could be making the situation worse. The contents of many household sprays may attract your cat back to the same spot, and you are back to cleaning up cat pee again.
Do you want to know how to clean up cat urine so that the smell of stale urine goes away? There is a simple solution you can make at home, and it works great on carpet. The first step is to soak up as much of the urine as you can, using paper towels. You can rub around with a cloth for hours, but if the carpet is soaked with pee, you are simply spreading it around.
An equal solution of distilled white vinegar and water is what you need. Test the solution in a small area to make sure that it works on your carpet, without leaving a mark. When you have soaked up as much of the urine as you can, spray the solution or apply to a cloth and press it into the affected area. When the area has dried, apply baking soda powder to the affected spot, work into the carpet fibres with a gentle brush and leave for a few minutes. You can them simply vacuum up the baking soda powder. If the odor is still there, simply repeat the process.
One final note.
The key to stopping you cat peeing in the house is to get to the root of the problem. Staying to the same routine of cleaning up urine, will make your house smell, make you angry and sometimes turn you against your cat. Now before you make any rash decisions and think about getting rid of your beloved pet, you need to find out why they are peeing on the carpet.

Why Do Cats Urinate in the House?

There are many reasons why your cat might be peeing in the house, anything from cleanliness, change of territory and the scent of another cat. Let's look at why cats urinate in the house and what you can do to make it stop.
Making your cat stop urinating on the carpet is easier than it seems. Many cat owners cannot keep an eye on their pet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so it becomes difficult to see what they are doing, where and why they are doing it. I want to run through some real life situations that have happened to me, and how I stopped the constant urinating on carpets.
Why do cats urinate in the house, and what you can do to make it stop.
One of the many reasons cat owners find themselves in this predicament is down to health issues. A couple of years ago my male cat was starting to pee just outside his litter tray, and then over a few days, he spread to other rooms and before I knew it, the house was starting to smell of urine. He had never done this before, he was always clean and never missed the spot when it came to doing his business.
Over the next couple of days, I made more of an attempt to follow him, only to find he wasn't peeing as normal. The short story is, he had a urinary infection, and the vet mentioned that he might be associating the pain he felt when he urinated to his litter tray, and so he avoided going in. I don't want to scare you, but if this sounds like something that could be happening to your cat, then either give your local vet a call, or take him in for an examination.
If the above is not something you think is happening, then lets run through another couple of reasons of why cats urinate in the house.
A change of territory is also another reason for random urinating, as they are simply marking their new home with their smell. You may see this happen for only a couple of days, but if it continues, then there might be other issues to look at.
Cleanliness is something I must mention, because it has happened to me in the past. If you have an indoor cat which uses only a litter tray, then having a dirty box is something of a no go area for many cats. Daily cleaning is essential, and the urinating in carpets will start to fade within days. Make sure your cat has easy access to his tray when it is cleaned.
These simple steps above may sound obvious, but many people have busy lives and forget that the simple things are usually the problem. If you think your cat has health issues, then don't waste anytime in having the vet give him a health check.
